American Red Cross Seeking Local Disaster Volunteers in Calaveras and Tuolumne Counties

CALAVERAS, CA – Thursday, August 28, 2014 — With a steady increase in local disasters and the continuing California drought fueling severe wildfire risks, the American Red Cross Capital Region is seeking dedicated volunteers to respond to the increasing needs in Tuolumne and Calaveras Counties.

On Friday, September 12 at 6:00 PM, the Red Cross will conduct a general interest meeting at the West Point All Veterans Hall Bldg – 22273 Hwy 26 - for Calaveras residents interested in learning more about the Red Cross and how to get involved as a volunteer.
Residents will have the opportunity to learn about Red Cross services, how to register as a volunteer, and receive information about required disaster training and upcoming training classes.
The Red Cross relies on the power of volunteers to deliver disaster relief throughout our 24-county Capital Region. When disaster strikes, local Red Cross volunteers respond immediately, providing emergency assistance such as shelter, food, clothing, and more for those impacted.
In the Capital Region, the need for assistance is great as volunteers are called to respond to an emergency – on average – once every 11 hours.
For more information about becoming a Red Cross disaster services volunteer in Calaveras and Tuolumne counties, as well as the upcoming meeting in Calaveras, please contact Dennis Lewis at (209) 712-3120 or dennis.lewis@redcross.org.
