CHP press release re: Maddox Fatality update



CHP SAN ANDREAS UPDATE

San Andreas, CA – On September 27, 2013, The California Highway Patrol served an arrest warrant on Samuel Christian Knox, 23, of Burson.  Mr. Knox was located at his residence and was taken into custody at 1310 hrs. 

On July 5, 2013 at 0119 hrs, Mr. Knox was involved in a vehicle collision on South Camanche Parkway.  Mr. Knox was driving his Harley Davidson motorcycle behind his friend, Matthew Maddox, 23, of Burson.  Mr. Maddox was involved in a solo vehicle collision when he lost control of his motorcycle.  Mr. Maddox was ejected off his motorcycle and onto the roadway.  Mr. Knox, due to his level of intoxication, was unable to avoid a collision with Mr. Maddox, subsequently running over Mr. Maddox with his motorcycle.  Mr. Maddox sustained fatal injuries due to this collision.

Mr. Knox was placed under arrest for 191.5(a)PC – Felony Vehicular Manslaughter and 23153(a)VC – Felony Driving Under the Influence.  Mr. Knox was released to the hospital for treatment of his injuries.

Based on the Calaveras County Coroner report and the Department of Justice Forensic Alcohol Analysis, the Calaveras County District Attorney’s Office issued a warrant for the arrest of Mr. Knox.
