Howard Jarvis Taxpayers Association press release

Sacramento – Jon Coupal, President of the Howard Jarvis Taxpayers Association, exposed the Motherlode Taxpayers Association as a fake taxpayer organization funded by a quarter-million dollars from Sacramento special interests.

The group appears to have been set up in the last 60 days in the 5th Assembly district which includes parts of El Dorado County, Placer County, Calaveras County and more. Coupal said that he had never seen a taxpayer group created so quickly and in control of such a massive amount of money.

He also noted that fake taxpayer groups like this undermine legitimate taxpayer organizations – like the Howard Jarvis organization.

The Howard Jarvis Taxpayers Association PAC yesterday reaffirmed the endorsement of Rico Oller over Frank Bigelow and has been critical of Bigelow votes to undermine Proposition 13 and make it easier to raise billions of dollars in new property taxes.

Update:
The Copper Gazette requested a response from the Motherlode Taxpayers Association regarding the HJTA press release. No response from the Motherlode Taxpayers Association  regarding this press release was received by the time of this posting.

Update 5-30-12:
Response received from MTA
"A.D. 5 is a very important race and one we take very seriously as an organization. We stand by our campaign and our message. As an organization we plan to continue to grow, fight for our principles within our local, state and federal government. We endorsed Frank Bigelow because we felt that he best fit the priorities and values we seek in a candidate. We have been around before this race and we will continue to be around after this race is long over. We formed the PAC in April in order to begin fundraising money and start an I.E. Campaign. We made this decision because of how seriously we take the outcome of this election. We encourage everyone to take part in the process by voting on June 5th."

Thanks and Respectfully,
