Claveras County Sheriff Press release re:New Years Eve Safety

As you celebrate the holiday season enjoying traditions, food, family and fun, be reminded that the
Calaveras County Sheriff s Office will be out to protect the residents and visitors of Calaveras County.
We will celebrate New Year's Eve this week and there are a number of things to consider when it
comes to celebrating safely. Here are a few things to think about for our New Year's celebrations:
• Plan ahead, designate a driver, and don't drive if you don't have to.
• Be alert, keep an eye out for each other, and don't leave your drinks unattended.
• Monitor your alcohol intake. Drinking too much often leads to regrets, but can also have lethal
effects.

• Please don't forget about your pets since people tend to use fireworks or other devices with
loud noises. "Ring in the New Year with a bell, not a bang". Firing guns into the air at night is
not only dangerous, but also a crime. Stray bullets kill innocent victims on New Year's Eve
across the nation each year and that is one accident we all could avoid.
• People feed off of each other's excitement in crowds, and sometimes things can get out of hand
so Calaveras Sheriff encourages everyone to use common sense and ring in the New Year
safely.
Calaveras Sheriffs patrol division will be fully staffed along with the Special Enforcement Team for
New Year's Eve.
