Sheriff Office Press Release

On August 15 at about 2:50 am, Calaveras County Sheriffs Deputies conducted an enforcement stop
of a vehicle in Copperopolis. Following a consensual search of the vehicles, Deputies located
narcotics related packaging. When asked about the packaging, driver Mikael Soper attempted to flee
from the Deputies on foot. Soper was arrested and an additional 40 grams of methamphetamine was
located in the vehicle along with additional packaging and U.S. currency. An assault rifle and shotgun
were also located in the vehicle. Both Soper and his passenger (Patricia Sewell) were arrested and
transported to the county jail.

Suspect Soper was booked into the Calaveras County Jail for Driving under the Influence of controlled
substance, Being under the Influence of a controlled substance, Resisting Arrest, Possession of a
controlled substance, Possession of a controlled substance for sale, Transportation of a controlled
substance and possession of firearms in the commission of a felony.

Suspect Sewell was booked into the Calaveras County Jail for: Being under the influence of a
controlled substance, Possession of a controlled substance, and Possession of a controlled substance
for sale and Transportation of a controlled substance.
Following the arrest of Soper and Sewell, the Calaveras Narcotics Enforcement Unit obtained a search
warrant regarding a third person who was allegedly involved with Soper and Sewell. In combination
with Calaveras Sheriff Detectives, Escalon Police Department and the California Department of
Corrections and Rehabilitation K-9 Unit, a search warrant was executed at a residence in Escalon.
During a search of the residence, Investigators located 11 grams of methamphetamine and over 200
prescription pills which appear to have been diverted from legitimate medical use. No arrests have
been made at this time in connection to the Escalon Search Warrant.
No further information will be released at this time as the investigation is on-going.
